The 2023 Durham Gala

Posted: 09-06-23

We are pleased to announce that CISWO will be attending the 137th Durham Miners’ Gala , on the 8th July 2023.

The Gala has been running since 1871 and is considered the world’s greatest celebration of working-class culture. The gala developed off the back of the creation of the first miners’ trade union and soon turned into the largest, unofficial gathering of miners and trade-union in the United Kingdom.

The day traditionally begins with the march of the Durham miner's banners, accompanied by brass bands, and sees visitors spill onto the streets of Durham - following the banners to the racecourse, where notable speakers address the crowd.

CISWO have attended the gala for many years, including in 2022 where, after a two-year hiatus due to the covid pandemic, over 200,000 people attended. We were thrilled to see such an enormous turn out and we hope to see even more people at the event this year.

The gala offers a fantastic opportunity for us to meet current and prospective clients and other organisations – spreading the CISWO message and ensuring that those in need, know how to reach us.

If you’re attending, make sure you come and pay us a visit on our stall.

We very much look forward to meeting with you all!
