CISWO is a national charity whose mission is to improve the lives of individuals and communities facing disadvantage due to the impact of the coal mining industry.

We are currently recruiting for a Development Manager in our Mansfield office.  This role has responsibility for supporting mining charities in CISWO’s South England Region, covering Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Kent  with the provision of guidance regarding sustainability and business planning, funding, and good governance and to protect CISWO’s interests. 

You will provide support for mining charities across the South England Region with regards to development opportunities, sustainability, funding and governance issues, provide secretariat services to mining related regional grant making charities, support mining charities to develop business plans and budgeting, contribute to the development of CISWO’s support offer for other mining charities, seeking new methods of supporting local trustees and support the recruitment of local trustees for local mining charities.

Other responsibilities also include promoting CISWO’s support offer, undertaking site visits to miners’ welfare charities and meeting with local charity officers, support mining charities to identify funding opportunities and develop funding proposals, develop local partnership working with other voluntary sector organisations, tiers of local government and local communities, represent the organisation with external parties, including, welfare charities, councils and local authorities as required, promote the organisations work with welfare charities through a range of marketing activities and ensure that CISWO’s interests and responsibilities in partner charities are retained and fulfilled.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, have experience of community development and / or business development, have experience of identifying and applying for funding on a national, regional, or local level, have proven experience of working in the charity sector with a good understanding of governance requirements and the challenges facing the sector and a good understanding of business planning and budgets.

You need to be self-motivated with excellent personal organisation and time management skills, have good judgement and logical decision making ability, excellent IT skills using a wide range of IT packages including databases, excellent communications skills and experience of building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.  You will also need the ability to take initiative with a practical ‘hands on’ approach, the ability to resolve problems in a proactive, practical and positive approach.  You will need a full driving license and access to a vehicle. 

Experience of designing and delivering training and a knowledge and understanding of the issues facing former mineworkers and mining communities would be desirable
